DEPLOYED QUANTUM KEY DISTRIBUTION WITH A ROOM-TEMPERATURE TELECOM SINGLE PHOTON SOURCE

Quantum key distribution (QKD) allows distant users to communicate with perfect secrecy based on the principles of quantum physics. Practical QKD in deployed fibers serves as an important part of the future quantum networks. Although Weak Coherent Pulses have achieved impressive key rates as QKD sources, efficient and scalable quantum light sources that are compatible with standard telecommunication infrastructure offers new perspectives for the practical deployment of QKD and other quantum information technologies, due to the compact setup and potential improvement in secure key rate. This thesis presents a comprehensive investigation and demonstration of QKD systems utilizing a room-temperature single-photon source emitting at telecom wavelengths, specifically within the O-band (˜1310 nm).
