LIGHTWEIGHT AND ADVANCE PRECAST CONCRETE SYSTEM FOR MODULAR BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

This paper proposes a new cruciform module design for the construction of buildings with wider column-to-column such as the Healthcare and Institutional Buildings with the use of lightweight concrete. Based on the finite element analysis (FEA) of two buildings with similar configurations and global aspect ratios, the long-term service limit state (long-term SLS), seismic action performance, ultimate limit state (ULS), and staged construction are compared to suggest the compatibility of the proposed module with the Healthcare and Institutional Buildings. The seismic analysis parameters used in SAP2000 is further verified through the reapplication of experiment done by the University of California for the Precast Seismic Structural System (PRESSS). Lastly, the constructability of the modular construction is further facilitated through the proposal of novel construction joints with design recommendations from EuroCode 2 and Singapore National Annex.
