Improved successive interference cancellation schemes using selective pre-cancellation and cross- correlation

In mobile communications, capacity is always the main concern a?? to allow as many simultaneous users as possible with limited resources and a certain level of quality of service. The limiting factor on capacity is not only the bit-error-rate (BER), but also the computation complexity and processing time. Interference cancellation (IC) schemes allow BER improvement at the cost of processing time and complexity. We propose an alternate implementation called cross-correlation implementation (CCI) that can be applied to any IC scheme to reduce the processing time up to 66%. When applied to more complicated schemes, it reduces the computation complexity up to 85%. We also propose an improved successive interference cancellation (ISIC) scheme that achieves capacity improvements up to 100% in an AWGN channel and 26% in a Rayleigh fading channel compared to a SIC without the improvements. This is achieved with minimal additional computation complexity and processing time.
