Abstract
dc:description.abstractSingapore’s fashion industry currently sees the need to be creative and give added value to stay competitive. The program proposes to incorporate design, academic and commercial sectors to create a catalytic effect. The thesis examines the issue of display, intrinsic in the realm of fashion. It also looks into the blurring of boundaries between designers, and between designers & consumers to encourage exchange of experience, opinions and ideas. Urban issues include the extension of activities to the ‘back’ of Orchard Road, thus diversifying the activities and also linking broken connections together. Fashion Centre becomes a display in itself. The two dimensional is thickened into a volume of experience. Users no longer look from the outside but experience the display by being part of it. Users become models and everyone naturally become objects of display.
