BLOOMING EXPRESSWAY : ORCHID FARMING OVER THE BUKIT TIMAH EXPRESSWAY
Abstract
dc:description.abstractMy thesis rejects the polarized view of nature versus culture. Using Bruno Latour’s definition of nature as science, a collection of databases, apparatuses, and precedence, and that this assemblage of references in turn, forms what we know as nature, it is put forth that the long held dichotomous relationship between nature and culture is not as clear as it seems. This ambiguous relationship is explored between two instances of nature and culture: first, an animal bridge over the Bukit Timah Expressway, and secondly, the tradition of orchid cultivation in Singapore.
