The thesis seeks to address the acoustic performance of naturally ventilated spaces. The focus of research is in the design of a prototype that achieves a desired sound effect in a semi-opened space which is to create an even sound distribution within and a reduced noise transmission beyond the space. Besides achieving the desired acoustic effect, the research attempts to fuse acoustic design with architecture. By the use of digital tools to access and evaluate design, the thesis explores a geometrical form that arises out of acoustic considerations. The main part of the thesis focuses on the strategy and design process development of a prototype design to achieve a desired acoustic outcome. The thesis then further demonstrates the prototype methodology on a larger scale. Esplanade Park has been chosen as the proposed site for the application of the prototype design. The project proposes to establish a link between the old and new performing arts centre by creating a music sanctuary in the park. The outdoor performance pavilion is the highlight of project. It is intended for musicians to showcase their performances to the general public.
