A STUDY OF ACTIVE FILTERS FOR HARMONIC AND REACTIVE POWER COMPENSATION
Abstract
dc:description.abstractIn this thesis, several aspects of an Active Power Filter (APF) system are studied. The theoretical background of active power filtering is evaluated, including several methods of harmonic current extraction, analysis of the shape of the de-link voltage of the APF and its response to external harmonic fluctuations. Analysis of different combined filter systems, and the analysis and design of an adaptive filter controller are also reported. To verify the analysis, simulation is performed on a prototype APF system, and an experimental APF system is constructed to show the feasibility of implementing active power filtering in a practical power system.
