Process-centered Software Engineering Environments (PSEEs) regard software engineering as the execution of explicitly defined processes. In addition, the World Wide Web (WWW) has emerged as an ideal platform to build PSEEs because of its hyperlink feature. In the thesis, the design and implementation of a WWW-based Process Model Management System (WPMM) are described. The WPMM is an extensible system upon which we can build a WWW-based PSEE in the future. Specifically, the WPMM contains a Process Model Repository Subsystem that stores process models for projects and provides a Process Model Manipulation API (Abstracted Programming Interface) based on TCP/IP to various client applications. Most importantly, the WPMM enables end users to change process models on the fly. Based on the Repository Subsystem, a WWW Interface to Process Models is developed. Through the interface, end users can browse projects, monitor projects. collect project metrics, query project information, and change process models using a WWW browser such as the Netscape Navigator. Finally, in order to support end users lo build up process models from scratch effectively, a Graphical Process Modeling Tool that runs on PCs is implemented too.
