FUZZY EXPERT SYSTEM FOR FAULT DIAGNOSIS OF POWER SYSTEMS

There is a large body of literature on fuzzy logic and fuzzy control originated from Zadeh’s fuzzy logic theory. The growing success of these techniques is due to close connections between the methodology of fuzzy logic and that of expert systems, and to the fact that fuzzy logic handles symbolic interface problems better than classical rule-based systems do. To safeguard the stability of power supply system, any fault section must be isolated quickly. Fault section identification is the first step of system restoration. It has also become a major area of research in the field of artificial intelligence application to power systems for many years. A fuzzy approach is proposed for identifying fault sections by using tripped circuit breaker and operated relay signals as input (chapter 2). The approach uses fuzzy logic set theory to deal with the uncertainties that occur during operation involving the fault location. A fuzzy expert system that used this approach is built (chapter 4, appendix B)
