ADVANCED POROUS MATERIALS IN MIXED MATRIX MEMBRANES FOR CARBON DIOXIDE CAPTURE

The mitigation of global warming by curtailing greenhouse gas emissions is urgently demanded, and has therefore prompted the development of separation technologies for CO2 capture from natural gas or biogas (CO2/CH4 separation) and flue gas (CO2/N2 separation). Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) offer new opportunities to achieve breakthroughs in fabricating high-performance membranes for CO2 capture. In this thesis, several advanced porous materials, including two dimensional metal-organic framework (MOF) nanosheets, MOF@covalent organic framework (COF) hybrid nanoparticles, three dimensional COF nanoparticles, have been explored as potential fillers in MMMs to further enhance the separation performance of pure polymeric membranes. These works will shed lights on the design and preparation of high-performance membranes by incorporating more advanced porous fillers for industrial CO2 capture applications.
