Fourier-transformed infrared absorption spectroscopy and kinetics studies of Gas phase small molecules

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The work in this thesis is directed towards understanding the kinetic of elementary gas-phase reactions using laser (lamp) based infrared techniques. The small molecules are very important in the atmospheric or combustion chemistry. We studied four types of reactions. The first one is the reactions of CSe2, SCSe and OCSe with O(3P) atom. The rate coefficients have been determined and reaction mechanism have been discussed. The second reaction is the unimolecular decomposition of alkoxy radicals. The reaction pathways have been discussed, especially the trifluoroethoxy radical. The final products have been detected. The third reaction is hydrogen atom abstraction reactions by t-butoxy radical. The rate coefficients and Arrhenius parameters for selected reactions have been determined for several substrates. The fourth is the reactions of O(3P) and Cl(2P3/2) atoms with (CF3)2CHOH and CF3CH2OH. The rate coefficients at 295A?2K for have been determined and stable products formed during the reactions have been detected.
