C-O hydrogenolysis is a key reaction in upgrading biomass–derived heterocyclic compounds into high value chemicals. It is of great importance to develop catalytic systems for C-O hydrogenolysis based on non-noble metals due to the high cost and depleting resources of noble metals. In this thesis, we investigated different catalytic systems composing of zeolite-supported Ni catalysts and bimetallic Ni-WOx catalysts, to get more insights into the role of Ni-based catalysts in C–O bond cleavage of heterocyclic compounds, particularly tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA).
