An overview of this business theory and the associated IDOV scheme are presented. Among the first steps of this roadmap, Quality Function Deployment is prevalent as it captures the a??Voice of Customera?? and yet some shortfalls needed further attention so that it better fits DFSS objectives. A new multi-criteria optimization model is thus developed, capable of addressing both the customer satisfaction and cost targets through a trade-off analysis. The formulation gives a set of Pareto-optimal solutions, i.e. listing down all a??equally gooda?? alternatives, which can provide a basis for further consideration by the management. Other developments are also undertaken so as to better meet practitionersa?? concerns.
