By taking Shanghai as a case, this dissertation reveals the existing answers to the question: why traditional Chinese medicine wasn’t marginalized after the modern Western medicine was introduced and established in China, such as the number of practitioners of Western medicine was small, Chinese people deeply believed in Chinese medicine and practitioners of Western medicine couldn’t use Chinese herbal drugs, are one-sided.
