However, the channel characteristics are usually unknown and time varying. In this thesis, novel receiver architectures and adaptive algorithms are developed to determine and track the channel characteristics as they change. They incorporate a new class of variable step-size least mean square (VSLMS) adaptive algorithms with good tracking properties developed in this thesis.
