Development and application of novel capillary electrophoresis techniques for analysis of DNA fragments and organic pollutants

Several capillary electrophoresis (CE) techniques had been developed to improve CE performance, pertaining to sensitivity, resolution and versatility. For analysis of DNA fragments, a potential gradient detection was designed and coupled with a portable CE system for DNA electrophoresis. In addition, the use of gold nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes as buffer additives for DNA separation by CE with different detectors was investigated. For organic pollutants, a novel online field-amplified sample stacking procedure in a poly(vinyl alcohol)-coated capillary, and an improved offline cationic surfactant-assisted solid-phase extraction method were developed for sensitive analysis of herbicides. Besides, simultaneous analysis of 2 groups of acidic pollutants in environmental samples at trace level by a portable CE system with contactless conductivity detection was reported.
