Test panels of various materials were placed at three depths. Observations were made on plywood panels exposed for four weeks, immersed at two week intervals, at just below the mean tow tide level to determine the change in rate of attachment of foulng organisms during the test period. Observations were aIso made on the amount of fouIing occuring on dlfferent test materials at the same depth and on the same test material at different depths. The most 1mportant short-term fouling organisms in Monterey Harbor were found to be barnacles, bryozoa, serpulids and hydrolds. The number of barnacles attaching to test palllets reached a peak in early April and then dectlned. The amount of fouling on the test panels increased with depth.
