The scope, of die thesis is very broad in nature, and covers topics as varied as preventive maintenance, spare parts production, and crew training. The areas are analyzed widi respect to their importance in estimating the submarine force's missions and capabilities. The penultimate chapter of the thesis uses the methodology to consider the significance of the Iranian acquisition of two Kilo submarines from Russia.
