The historical development and evolutionary trends of such a system are reviewed, current initiatives and projects are explained and evaluated, and user requirements are analyzed in order to make recommendations for future development. The Aviation Training Support System (ATTS), Naval Aviation Logistics Command Management Information System (NALCOMIS), and proposed Portable Logistics System (PLS) are cited as possible development paths for future systems. These paths are presented, either singularly or in combination, as feasible alternatives.
