A nonlinear finite element solution has also been obtained for notched flat plates in plane stress to facilitate an evaluation of it as an analytical method for calculating the behavior of stresses at the notch root. Experimental results indicate that Neuber's equation is ten to twenty- five percent in error for the notch geometry, strain level and material behavior encountered in the present study.
