Maximizing profits for a commercial salmon rearing facility using linear programming
Abstract
dc:description.abstractA linear programming model of a commercial salmon rearing facility is formulated. A scheme is provided for facility expansion at an optimum rate, maximizing profit to the grower. The variables are the number of fish started in each year and the number of fresh water ponds and salt water pens to construct in each time interval. Constraints are the volumes of facilities required and provided. Cost constraints are included. The model provides the best course of action for facilities expansion based on current knowledge in the salmon mariculture field. The formulation provides for easy updating as technology advances.
