dc:description.abstract<p>LITTLE GIRL IN A HGRRY: THE STORY OF MAUREEN CONNOLLY is a biography written for young people from approximately nine to thirteen. It opens when Maureen was rune-and-a- halt, when she began her love affair with tennis- showing both the external and internal obstacles she overcame to become, at seventeen, the women's champion in world tennis. Whenever possible the emphasis has been upon showing rather than tellmg, so that readers may discover the world of Maureen Connolly for themselves. In order to achieve this I have useo the devices of the novelist to bring the facts alive. The biography ends with Maureen at the height of her career, followed by an afterword depicting the remain ing highlights of her life.</p>
