The flow parameters that were measured included: current velocity, depth, water temperature, and suspended-load concentration. A bedload sample was also taken at each bedform. The median grain size of the sand fraction of the bedload sample was measured with a recording settling tube. Three relationships (velocity: depth, Reynolds number: Froude number, Reynolds number: median grain size of sand) were moderately successful in separating ripples from dunes but failed to isolate plane bed. The use of velocity near the bed to calculate the Froude number results in a relatively small Froude number.
