Reflections on Lgbtq in Adolescence: Impact of Social and Environmental Issues on Early Identity Development

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This study is designed to attain an in-depth understanding of the question: What are the social and environmental factors that affect the identity development of LGBTQ youth? Designed as a convergent mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative) study, the research seeks to examine the perspective of LGBTQ youth to elicit detailed descriptions of their subjective social and environmental realities and to describe those diverse realities from the LGBTQ youth point-of-view. The researcher conducted surveys and semi-structured one-on-one interviews. Through the study, a better understanding of the relational, social and environmental elements is developed, particularly around young individuals who are immersed in the process of discovering and defining their identities.
