Redesigning the Schedule in the First Grade

<p>Flexible, is defined in the Webster’s Dictionary as: TRACTABLE 3: characterized by a ready capacity to adapt to new, different, or changing requirements. The scheduling practices in elementary schools require the classroom teacher to be a master craftsman in all subject areas as they juggle teaching: math, science, social studies, reading, English, art, music, physical education, health, technology, response to intervention, and character education curriculum. This is a daunting task to fulfill in the current student instructional day. Redesigning the current elementary schedule requires a steadfast commitment from the educational leader and the teachers working in collaboration to produce a comprehensive schedule that could impact student outcomes. This is the change that we have all been waiting for; an opportunity to positively impact student outcomes by taking a risk, an opportunity to explore a new schedule design that empowers one of educations most powerful resource, the teacher.</p>
