"Fuel cells are promising alternative power generating devices that can provide clean and environmentally friendly energy for the ever growing global energy demand. This this research was aimed at a study of novel electrocatalysts for polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells. Carbon nanotubes have been studied as a new catalyst support. A sonochemical treatment method was applied for surface oxidation of multiwalled carbon nanotubes to achieve highly dispersed nanoparticles on them. Several surface functional groups were generated on the nanotubes, which contribute to the binding of nanoparticles"--Abstract, page iii.
