Integrated optimization system for airbag design and modeling by finite element analysis
Abstract
dc:description.abstract"The Finite Element Analysis is widely used in design and modeling of airbags in the automotive industry. Because an airbag is a three-dimensional structure capable of undergoing large deformations with non-linear material properties, usually commercial software is used to conduct the analysis. In recent years, some efforts have been made to optimize the design of airbags and improve their performance, but integration of optimization software with industry standard Finite Element Analysis software has rarely been practiced. In this dissertation, a general-purpose integrated optimization system has been developed. This system can be easily tailored to fit different requirements for different airbag systems. A number of industry standard software is employed to work in coherence to complete the optimization of the Finite Element Analysis model automatically without any interactive user intervention. Compared with the commonly used Design of Experiment (DOE) method, time and computer resources requirements are greatly curtailed"--Abstract, page ii.
