"In recent years, the switched reluctance machine (SRM) has become a prominent electromechanical device and is seriously considered as a candidate for such diverse areas as: aerospace, vehicular technology, home appliances, and military applications. The resurgence of the SRM has primarily been the result of advances in power electronics and digital signal processing. However, the SRM still has many areas in which its understanding and performance may be enhanced...This dissertation conceptualizes alternatives for magnetic loading of the SRM drive to enhance/improve its performance, and develops a methodology by which the even phase 8/6 SRM drive can be maintained in continuous SFPE via bipolar excitation"--Abstract, page iii.
