To secure this information four questionnaires were utilized, two of which were specifically constructed for this study. These questionnaires were administered to eighty-one assisted subjects (who had previously received treatment facilities). Comparative analyses were performed between the total assisted group and the total unassisted group. The demographic characteristics of the subjects indicated that the two groups were quite identical. The major differences between both groups were from employment and occupational characteristics, financial status and social participation. Many of these differences could be attributed to the urban character of the assisted group when compared to the unassisted sujects rural traits. No significant differences were found when the two groups were classified as alcoholics and non-alcoholics, but a higher level of motivation towards treatment and a more positive attitude towards alcoholism was indicated by the assisted subjects.","abstract_html":"The present study was designed to evaluate the perception of assistance provided to alcoholics of Westmorland County, New Brunswick.
