dc:description.abstract"One of the aims of the present work was to study the reductions of a number of chloro-, bromo- and iodonitroanisoles, chloro-, and bromonitrophenetoles, methylnitroanisoles, and also dimethoxy-, and diethoxynitrobenzenes with (a) ethanolic sodium hydroxide and zinc dust, (b) methanolic sodium hydroxide and zinc dust, (c) ethnolic potassium hydroxide, and (d) lithium aluminim hybride. A second aim was the synthesis of new dihalodialkosy-, dimethoxydimethyl-, and tetra-alkoxy-azo- and azoxybenzenes. A further object was to prepare series of symetrical tetrasubstituted axoxybenzenes as starting materials for a study of the Wallach rearrangement."
