Cyber Warfare Strategy in the People's Republic of China

China is rapidly ascending in the international community. Aspects of China's rise in power are being examined by many including academics and government personnel to understand China's future role in the international system. China will undoubtedly use numerous instruments of state power to enhance their role in the international system. This thesis examines the role of information warfare and cyber warfare in Chinese military strategy. Cyber warfare is viewed as a force multiplier, the Chinese have a prospective that cyber is a strategic capability potentially capable of achieving victory before war breaks out. This thesis examines strategic considerations and principles, attempting to formulate a unified perspective of the cyber domain and cyber warfare. In future conflict, China will conduct cyber operations to assist and to achieve a variety of military objectives. China's cyber strategy is an United States centric strategy therefore national security policymakers and personnel must have a comprehensive understanding of the threat posed by China.
