The Personal Essay As a Self Portrait

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The challenge addressed in this project has been how to effectively portray myself through the medium of the personal essay. In order to address this challenge, I first had to clarify and define exactly what a personal essay is, which required quite a bit of reading, and then use my writing skills to convey who I am through that medium. I then had to choose how to best present the essays, since they cover such a broad spectrum of subject matter; I arranged the reminiscent essays in chronological order, followed by a collection of essays that reveal aspect of my personality and values, and finally, I conclude the thesis with a collection of essays about nature and my observations about the seasons.
