A Comparison of Gas Chromatographic Properties of Chromium (Iii) and Iron (Iii) Tris (Ethylenediamine) Exchanged Montmorillonites
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe gas chromatographic properties of montmorillonite clays substituted with progressively larger percentages of tris(ethylenediamine) complexes of chromium (III) and iron (III) were studied and compared. Retention mechanisms of microsieving and surface adsorption are compared and discussed. The effects of percentage of substitution and heating on d₀₀₁-spacing and surface area are compared. The iron (III) complex showed possible decomposition upon contact with water.
