Abstract
dc:description.abstractCondensation processes of a thin metal film are a direct result of interfacial energies. The realationships between these energies are virtually identical to those between an adhesive that wets a solid substrate. Using adhesion as a model, a method of modifying the interfacial energies of a gold on glass interface was developed. Through ultrasonic treatment of a glass substrate during deposition, a thin gold film approximately 100 Å thick was produced. Resistance measurements revealed a resistance that was over 50% lower than an identical sample that was created without ultrasonic treatment.
