Morphologic and Phenolic Variation in Quercus Alba and Q. Stellata: Evidence For Hybridization

Morphologic and phenolic variation were studied at the intrapopulation and interspecific level for Q. alba L. and Q. stellata Wang. using three sites in the Southwest Missouri area. Morphologic results question the taxonomic significance of Forma alba and Forma latiloba within Q. alba. Discriminant analysis and Principal component analysis indicates ten putative hybrid specimens to be intermediate in morphology and phenolic constituents between Q. alba and Q. stellata.
