This assay was used to measure naturally acquired S. equi antibody, antibody induced by experimental challenge with virulent S. equi, and antibody stimulated by vaccination with S. equi. M protein preparations. This passive mouse protection assay was then used in an opsonization inhibition assay developed to measure the M protein antigen of S. equi.
