Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis theis represents my first serious, although exploratory, attempt to write in the personal essay genre. I chose themes of friendship and hacky sack because these have been recurring issues in my journal writing for several years. The critical introduction attempts to justify the following pieces within the essay genre, accounting for authorial motives and decisions, simultaneously exploring key issues of essayism. Contents: The thing about my essays is -- Author's definition -- The Serpent of friendship -- Fig newtons and the mountain and friendship -- The wrong people -- The nicest people -- The friendship of politics -- I hacky sacked with the devil today.
