Representing a 22-year time span, respondents answered written survey questions concerning current employment, educational background, and personal profile. The research found substantial agreement among respondents that the English major is a highly gratifying personal experience but one that is neither easily employable nor highly profitable outside academe without careful planning early in a program of study.
