A Study of Existing Fears of Fifth and Sixth Grade Students
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe purpose of this study was to determine the existing fears of children in fifth and sixth grade and to determine if those fears differed depending upon the sex of the child. The Revised Fear Survey Schedule for Children (FSSC-R) was given to 187 students. Analysis was based on tabulation in means of those items. The analysis of data indicated that there are a number of existing fears in fifth and sixth grade students. Further, it showed the greatest fear in both girls and boys was not being able to breathe. The most significant finding to both groups was fear of personal injury, The least fear among girls and boys in the fifth and sixth grade was fear of small animals and insects.
