Elementary Teacher and Elementary Undergraduate Opinions of Cooperative Learning

The purpose of this study was to determine the opinions of elementary teachers and undergraduates toward cooperative learning structures. The data was gathered from a questionnaire designed by Becky Southard. Elementary teachers and elementary undergraduates were surveyed to determine their opinions of cooperative learning, competitive learning, and independent learning. The analysis of data revealed that schools should emphasize cooperation. The study indicated agreement with the concepts of cooperative learning. Elementary teachers were opposed to competitve learning and undecided about independent learning. Both groups were in agreement that social-skills are as important as academics. Furthermore, elementary teachers and elementary undergraduates were in favor of schools teaching social-skills.
