Air Flow and Volume During Repeated Syllable and Sentence Productions

The purpose of this study was to provide a normative database of midvowel flow and volume per syllable measures during the repetition of both syllables and sentences in young men and women. No difference was found between midvowel flow values of syllables produced at three and five syllables per second. Midvowel flow measures were generally lower than those reported in the literature. Volume per syllable (VPS) values from repetition of syllables were similar to volume per syllable averages reported in previous studies. Individual means for sentence VPS were lower than study should be viewed with caution, however, and replication of the present study is needed.
