The information collected was then compared to the responses made by 187 elementary principals in southwest Missouri as to the guidelines they perceived to be most important in the selection of elementary social studies textbooks. From a descriptive analysis of the 104 responses to the questionnaire, it was learned that readability was ranked quite high.
