Chlorinated Pesticide Levels in Knox County, Nebraska Farm Pond Fish

Abstract

Chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticide levels were analyzed from blue gill (Lepomis Machrochirus) fillets. Hexane was used to extract the pesticide residues. A gas chromatograph equipped with an electron capture detector was employed for detection and quantitation of the pesticide residues. The results were compared with soil from each pond. The results were also compared with results from a larger species of fish (higher in the food chain). The fish fillets and the soil were found to contain levels of these pesticides which were at or below quantitation limits for the method (approximately 0.0006 ug/g).
