Fish fillets (10 and 20 g) were ground with 20 g of anydrous sodium sulfate. This mixture was then extracted with 100 mL of hexane, filtered and passed through a Chem Elut cartridge (65% Diatomaceous Earth and 35% crystalline silica). The solution was collected after it has passed through the cartridge and an additional 50 mL of hexane was passed through the cartridge. The collected solution was then transferred to a round bottom flask and reduced to 3 mL by rotary evaporation and transferred to a 5 mL volumetric flask and 0.5 ppm of hexachlorobenzene was added for an internal standard. The solution was diluted to the mark and the organochlorine pesticide residues were determined by gas chromatography with electron capture detection.
