Abstract
dc:description.abstractBones From the Mind Dog is a collection of six works of short fiction, with a critical introduction outlining the books and experiences that inspired them. "It Was Snowing" is about two brothers and a sister dealing with an alcoholic father; "In These Streets" explores one day in the lives of two sanitation workers in an oppressive near-future; "Through Smoke and Tears" concerns a gunslinger in a not-quite-our-own wild West, where he has to deal with a threat to a small Western town, while at the same time dealing with his own troubled past; "The Man Who Yawned" is a satirical what-if? Story about what might happen if yawns really were "catching"; "Praying for the Worms to Come" is a post-death story from the perspective of the newly dead; and "On Cold Water" is a fictionalized true story about a family member who died in the 1998 crash of Swissair Fight 111.
