The Vascular Flora of Camp Crowder: an Army National Guard Military Installation in Newton County, Missouri

A survey of the vascular flora of Camp Crowder, Newton County, Missouri, was conducted between April 1993 and October 1995, and continued from May 1997 through October 1997. An annotated checklist of 536 taxa representing 93 families, 310 genera, and 38 tentative Newton County records was compiled. Seven plant communities are identified and described based on field observations. These communities include Forest, Glade, Wetland, Stream bank, Prairie remnant, Grassland and Disturbed Areas. An effort was made to account for the occurrence of the flora within this area of southwestern Missouri in relation to the climate, topography, geology, soils, and past vegetational history. Some rare and endangered plant species were found to occur in this study site.
