Three species [(H. flabellatum (Sm.) Fleisch. H. papillosum Broth. and H. scalpellifolium (Mitt.) Fleisch.)] are recognized for Southeast Asia and adjacent regions. Fifteen species and three varieties are treated as new synonyms of these three species. Five species are excluded from Homaliodendron. The sections of the genus are not retained. A historic review of the genus is discussed in detail.
