This paper discusses the results of a survey of public and private accountants in four Midwest states. The survey solicited information regarding skills desired in accounting graduates, and compared skills needed for success in public accounting with skills needed for success in private accounting. The data indicate that accounting students need different preparation in order to be successful in these two areas of accounting.
