Three-dimensional sketch tool

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This thesis depicts a computer software program that enables a user to sketch lines and shapes into three-dimensional space. The problem with current computer modeling software is its requirement for the precise input of control points to establish three-dimensional objects and scenes. This heavy demand for precision makes the current technology too cumbersome to use during the early stages of design, which is inherently imprecise. Alternatively, a tool that allows the designer to sketch three-dimensionally and free from the rigor of control points, promises to bring the use of the computer closer to the earlier stages of design. Furthermore, the designer is able to benefit from the computational powers afforded by the computer, such as being able to orbit around a digital sketch and viewing the design from multiple views, as opposed to the limits of a single view sketched on two-dimensional paper.
