Enhancing User Data Privacy and Trust through the Implementation of the OTrace Protocol: Development, Challenges, and Impact Assessment
Abstract
dc:description.abstractIn the digital age, safeguarding user data privacy and rebuilding trust in digital platforms have become critical priorities as data breaches and misuse continue to rise. This thesis ex- plores the novel traceability and accountability protocol - OTrace, which tackles these issues by providing users with enhanced control and transparency over their personal data through advanced consent mechanisms and data traceability features. The study thoroughly analyzes current data privacy frameworks, identifying areas where the OTrace Protocol can bridge gaps. Following comprehensive software and product development methodologies, the the- sis details a web service’s technical design and development that implements the OTrace protocol, including requirements analysis, use case definition, system architecture, and Ap- plication Programming Interface (API) specification. The research addresses the technical, regulatory compliance, and user acceptance challenges encountered, offering insights into potential solutions and strategies. The thesis concludes by examining the outcomes of the enhancements made to user privacy and trust perceptions, addresses the study’s limitations and potential areas for future research, and the protocol’s promise for policymakers, de- velopers, and businesses in establishing a more secure and transparent digital landscape, ultimately strengthening user data privacy and fostering greater trust.
